This month we are Food Partying! about locally owned restaurants, and encouraging visits during this classically not-busy period for restaurants early in the year.

Make sure to check out Stanford Shopping Center’s new Turkish hotspot, Hummus Mediterranean Kitchen, with locations in San Francisco and Mountain View too. Co-Founders and long-time friends Onur Alkanoglu and Yasar Bulutoglu fill their menu with fresh food prepared in-house: produce, herbs, spices, halal meats and “lots of olive oil.”

“For the Palo Alto opening back in 2023, we brought in family and friends to help. My brother flew in from New York and worked as a server – it’s been some of the most fun experiences we’ve ever had!”

The Food Party! has heard a lot about the Kitchen lately; Portola Valley was recently raving about a fan favorite, unique to the restaurant:

Lahmacun (Turkish pizza), a thin crusted flatbread with minced meat, veggies and spices
Lahmacun (Turkish pizza), a thin crusted flatbread with minced meat, veggies and spices ($20.50)

Their appetizer plate offers a sampling of finger food munchies and dips – great to eat in or for take-out at your next house party.

The Appetizer Sampler Plate ($21.95)

We visited specifically for the Turkish Breakfast – a recently-launched smorgasbord of wonders: sliced Soujouk (dry, spicy sausage) pastries, cheeses, olives, sweet and savory spreads like Nutella and tahini, and other delights accompanied by a pot of Turkish tea.

Turkish Breakfast Platter ($59)

They say it serves 2, but I say it serves a lot more. It’s a feast with enough to bring home for later. Reminds me of breakfast in Morocco – freshly baked breads and pastries with spreads and other treats of the region.

For a warm addition to brunch, consider the Shakshuka; honestly the best I’ve ever eaten.

Next week we’ll visit family-owned Desi, a contemporary Indian eatery in Campbell.

I've been attractive to food for good and bad reasons for years.
